PART II: You Must Be Born-Again

How Not To Get Into Heaven

Are you a good person? Are you truly saved? In other words, will you go to heaven instead of hell? Have you been saved from going to hell? The approach used in this chapter is based on the approach used by the Living Waters ministry. To help you learn how to share the gospel with people, which is what evangelism means, I recommend the excellent material available at: https://www.livingwaters.com/

Some people believe they will go to heaven because they feel they are a good person. If that describes you, then please answer the following questions to put that to the test.
1. Have you ever lied? Even a little white lie.
2. What do you call a person who tells lies? Answer: A liar.
3. Have you ever stolen anything? No matter how small?
4. What do you call someone who steals? Answer: A thief.
5. Have you ever used God’s name in vain? Blasphemy, which means, using God’s name to curse.
6. Have you ever committed adultery? That means, sex with someone’s else’s spouse.
7. Have you ever had sex outside of marriage? Sex outside of marriage is called fornication.
In Matthew 5:28 Jesus said:

Matthew 5:28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

So, if you answered yes to one or more of the above questions then you are not a good person; and that is just four of the ten commandments. If you answered yes to all the above questions, then you are not a good person. Here is a true evaluation of you: By your own admission, you are a lying thief, a blasphemer, a fornicator and an adulterer at heart.

Here is some more truth for you:

1 Corinthians 6:9–10   9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

It is at this point that many people ask: Who then can be saved? Well, the very next verse after the passage I just quoted above provides the answer to you:

1 Corinthians 6:11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

Simply put, if you are willing to repent of your sins and to trust only in what Jesus Christ did on the cross to pay for your sins then God will give you eternal life and you will go to heaven when you die. If you do not do that then you will go to hell when you die.
