Ch. 51 Essential Christian Doctrines
Each question can be answered with a Yes or No; a true born-again Christian would answer yes to all these questions.
1. Do you believe Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ?
2. Do you believe that Jesus Christ is God in human flesh? In other words, do you believe in the incarnation of Jesus Christ? Meaning: Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man; He exists as the unity in one person of both a divine and human nature.
3. Do you believe Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin?
4. Do you believe Jesus Christ lived a sinless life?
5. Do you believe Jesus Christ performed miracles?
6. Do you believe in Jesus Christs vicarious and atoning death as payment for your sins?
7. Do you believe in Jesus Christs ascension to the right hand of the Father?
8. Do you believe Jesus Christ will personally return in power and glory and judge the world?
9. Do you believe in original sin? Meaning: Adam and Eves unfaithfulness brought death to everyone and tainted every aspect of our being.
10. Do you believe the Bible is the Word of God? Meaning: The 39 books of the Old Testament along with the 27 books of the New Testament are divine and not merely human in origin and they comprise the entire Christian canon (standard of measurement).
11. Do you believe in the Trinity?
Meaning:
There is only one God
The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are eternally distinct persons
When Trinitarians talk about one God, they mean the essence or nature of God. And persons mean the personal selfdistinctions within the Godhead. In other words, Trinitarians believe in one What and three Whos.
12. Do you believe Jesus Christ was physical bodily resurrected from the dead?
13. Do you believe you must be born-again to receive eternal life?
John 3:35 Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus *said to Him, How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mothers womb and be born, can he? 5 Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
14. Do you believe Jesus Christ will return to gather His believers; in other words, do you believe in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ i.e. He is coming bodily to earth to judge and rule?
1 Thessalonians 4:1318 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Hebrews 9:2728 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, 28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.
15. Do you believe you were a sinner before you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?
16. Do you believe salvation is only obtained by Jesus Christs sacrifice and not by your works.
Acts 20:28 Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
Romans 3:25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;
Romans 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
Ephesians 2:89 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Hebrews 9:1214 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
17. Do you believe salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone?
John 14:6 Jesus *said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
18. Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior and your Lord?
