Ch. 48 The Lord's prayer

The way I understand the Lord’s prayer and the issue of forgiveness is as follows. Jesus had not yet died on the cross and He was doing exactly what He should do at that point i.e., teach the Law. He knew the purpose of the Law is to lead people to Himself. By saying we would be forgiven only as we forgive others is an impossible standard to meet; just as with the Law, we are unable to meet the standard. Therefore, we are driven to a Savior.

When I sin as a Christian, I confess my sins and thank the Lord Jesus for having already paid the price for my sins and that I have already had all my sins forgiven: past, present, and future sins.

Do you ask for redemption over and over? Do you ask for redemption every day? Why not? You do not ask for redemption every day because when Christ redeemed you it was done once and for all. Is that true or not? It is true. You are correct not to ask to be redeemed everyday so, why would you ask for forgiveness every day?

Colossians 1:13–14   13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Instead of the Lord’s prayer directive under the Law, under grace God tells us to forgive others just as the Lord forgave us.

Colossians 3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.
