Ch. 12 Jesus Christ Claimed to Be God
Why was Jesus Killed? For which reason, under the Law of Moses, did Jesus Christs enemies want to kill Him? We do not have to wonder why Jesus was killed; the Bible tells us exactly why He was killed:
John 10:3033 30 I and the Father are one. 31 The Jews picked up
stones again to stone Him. 32 Jesus answered them, I showed you many good works from the
Father; for which of them are you stoning Me? 33 The Jews answered Him,
For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man,
make Yourself out to be God.
Jesus Christ was not guilty of blasphemy because He is God. Jesus Christ was killed because of our sins; because of your sins and my sins.
Jesus claims to be God.
Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM; and He said,
Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.
John 8:5659
56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.
57 So the Jews said to Him, You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?
58 Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.
59 Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple.
Jesus claims to be equal with God.
John 5:18 For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.
John 10:30 I and the Father are one.
Jesus calls Himself Lord.
John 13:13 You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am.
He claims to be the answer to our spiritually lost condition.

John 10:911
9 I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

25 Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,
26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?

Mark 2:113
1 When He had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home.
2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them.
3 And they *came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men.
4 Being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying.
5 And Jesus seeing their faith *said to the paralytic, Son, your sins are forgiven.
6 But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,
7 Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?
8 Immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, *said to them, Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?
9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, Your sins are forgiven; or to say, Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk?
10 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sinsHe *said to the paralytic,
11 I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home.
12 And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, We have never seen anything like this.
13 And He went out again by the seashore; and all the people were coming to Him, and He was teaching them.
He claims to be equal with God.
John 5:1718
17 But He answered them, My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.
18 For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.
He was officially convicted of blasphemy proclaiming Himself equal with God.
Mark 14:6064
60 The high priest stood up and came forward and questioned Jesus, saying, Do You not answer? What is it that these men are testifying against You?
61 But He kept silent and did not answer. Again the high priest was questioning Him, and saying to Him, Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?
62 And Jesus said, I am; and you shall see THE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER, and COMING WITH THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN.
63 Tearing his clothes, the high priest *said, What further need do we have of witnesses?
64 You have heard the blasphemy; how does it seem to you? And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death.
He calls himself

Christs resurrection from the dead was recorded in great detail in the New Testament.
The apostles were even willing to die for the claim that Jesus appeared to them again
and again over 40 days not to mention the empty tomb and over 500 people who
saw the resurrected Christ. The apostles claimed to have seen, heard, and touched the risen Christ.
He even ate with them; over 12 different appearances are recorded.
1 Corinthians 15:68
6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time,
most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;
7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles;
8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.
Jesus claimed to be none other than God in human flesh. And no other great world religious leader ever claimed to be God.

39. As raising himself from the dead.
John 2:1921
19 Jesus answered them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
20 The Jews then said, It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?
21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body.
John 10:18 No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.
40. As Eternal.

And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Micah 5:2 But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Too little to be among the clans of Judah,
From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel.
His goings forth are from long ago,
From the days of eternity.
John 1:1, 14
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Colossians 1:17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
Hebrews 1:810
8 But of the Son He says,
YOUR THRONE, O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER,
AND THE RIGHTEOUS SCEPTER IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS KINGDOM.
9 YOU HAVE LOVED RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HATED LAWLESSNESS;
THEREFORE GOD, YOUR GOD, HAS ANOINTED YOU
WITH THE OIL OF GLADNESS ABOVE YOUR COMPANIONS.
10 And, YOU, LORD, IN THE BEGINNING LAID THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH,
AND THE HEAVENS ARE THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS;
Revelation 1:8 I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.
41. As Omnipresent.

In Your splendor and Your majesty!

Revelation 1:8 I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.
43. As Omniscient.
John 16:30 Now we know that You know all things, and have no need for anyone to question You; by this we believe that You came from God.
John 21:17 He *said to him the third time, Simon, son of John, do you love Me? Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, Do you love Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You. Jesus *said to him, Tend My sheep.
44. As discerning the thoughts of the heart.
1 Kings 8:39 then hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive and act and render to each according to all his ways, whose heart You know, for You alone know the hearts of all the sons of men,
Luke 5:22 But Jesus, aware of their reasonings, answered and said to them, Why are you reasoning in your hearts?
Ezekiel 11:5 Then the Spirit of the LORD fell upon me, and He said to me, Say, Thus says the LORD, So you think, house of Israel, for I know your thoughts.
John 2:2425
24 But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men,
25 and because He did not need anyone to testify concerning man, for He Himself knew what was in man.
Revelation 2:23 And I will kill her children with pestilence, and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.
45. As unchangeable.
Malachi 3:6 For I, the LORD, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.

LIKE A GARMENT THEY WILL ALSO BE CHANGED.
BUT YOU ARE THE SAME,
AND YOUR YEARS WILL NOT COME TO AN END.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
46. As having power to forgive sins.
Colossians 3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.
Mark 2:710
7 Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?
8 Immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, *said to them, Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?
9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, Your sins are forgiven; or to say, Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk?
10 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sinsHe *said to the paralytic,
47. As Giver of pastors to the Church.
Jeremiah 3:15 Then I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you on knowledge and understanding.
Ephesians 4:1113
11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;
13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.
48. As Husband of the Church.
Isaiah 54:5 For your husband is your Maker,
Whose name is the LORD of hosts;
And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel,
Who is called the God of all the earth.
Ephesians 5:2533
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her,
26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
28 So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;
29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,
30 because we are members of His body.
31 FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND SHALL BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.
32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.
Isaiah 62:5 For as a young man marries a virgin,
So your sons will marry you;
And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
So your God will rejoice over you.
Revelation 21:2,9
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.
2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.
9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.
49. As the object of divine worship.
Acts 7:59 They went on stoning Stephen as he called on the Lord and said, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!
2 Corinthians 12:89
8 Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me.
9 And He has said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
Hebrews 1:6 And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says,
AND LET ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD WORSHIP HIM.

50. As the object of faith.

For His wrath may soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!
1 Peter 2:6 For this is contained in Scripture:
BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone,
AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
Jeremiah 17:57
5 Thus says the LORD,
Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind
And makes flesh his strength,
And whose heart turns away from the LORD.
6 For he will be like a bush in the desert
And will not see when prosperity comes,
But will live in stony wastes in the wilderness,
A land of salt without inhabitant.
7 Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD
And whose trust is the LORD.
John 14:1 Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.
51. As God, he redeems and purifies the Church to himself.

Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.

24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy,
25 to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
53. Saints live to him as God.

Galatians 2:19 For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live to God.
2 Corinthians 5:15 and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.
54. Acknowledged by his Apostles.

28 Thomas answered and said to Him, My Lord and my God!
29 Jesus *said to him, Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.
55. Acknowledged by the Old Testament saints.

I am God Almighty;
Walk before Me, and be blameless.
Genesis 48:1516
15 He blessed Joseph, and said,
The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked,
The God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,
16 The angel who has redeemed me from all evil,
Bless the lads;
And may my name live on in them,
And the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac;
And may they grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.
Genesis 32:2430
24 Then Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak.
25 When he saw that he had not prevailed against him, he touched the socket of his thigh; so the socket of Jacobs thigh was dislocated while he wrestled with him.
26 Then he said, Let me go, for the dawn is breaking. But he said, I will not let you go unless you bless me.
27 So he said to him, What is your name? And he said, Jacob.
28 He said, Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed.
29 Then Jacob asked him and said, Please tell me your name. But he said, Why is it that you ask my name? And he blessed him there.
30 So Jacob named the place Peniel, for he said, I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been preserved.

3 In the womb he took his brother by the heel,
And in his maturity he contended with God.

And there He spoke with us,
5 Even the LORD, the God of hosts,
The LORD is His name.

22 When Gideon saw that he was the angel of the LORD, he said, Alas, O Lord GOD! For now I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face.
23 The LORD said to him, Peace to you, do not fear; you shall not die.
24 Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD and named it The LORD is Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
Judges 13:2122
21 Now the angel of the LORD did not appear to Manoah or his wife again. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the LORD.
22 So Manoah said to his wife, We will surely die, for we have seen God.
Job 19:2527
25 As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives,
And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.
26 Even after my skin is destroyed,
Yet from my flesh I shall see God;
27 Whom I myself shall behold,
And whom my eyes will see and not another.
My heart faints within me!
Anyone who denies that Jesus Christ is God in human flesh is that spirit of antichrist:
1 John 4:1–3 1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether
they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has
come in the flesh is from God; 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God;
this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and
now it is already in the world.
As I mentioned earlier, Jesus claimed to be none other than God in human flesh. And no other great world religious leader ever claimed to be God.
